Spectacles 2
Water-resistant camera sunglasses, built to make a splash.

.work summary
Spectacles 2 is the moment Spectacles got cooler. The line grew up with a slimmer charging case, sharper high-definition video, and better sound, plus a refreshed set of colorways in Onyx, Ruby, and Sapphire, each with its own named lens shade options. But the headline was water resistance. For the first time you could wear them in the rain, the pool, or the shallows, and the whole campaign leaned into it. The theme was pure summer: make a splash, beach and pool days, that easy Hawaii-vacation feeling.

This was the first time I really stepped into an art director role. The design team had grown, and I helped shape the art direction for the campaign imagery, and the product video shown at the top of this page. I also became the team's point person for point-of-purchase displays: as one of the only designers who could work in 3D, I built the models and the graphics that went on them, and they rolled out across the US, Europe, and the UAE, a part of the job I loved because it meant getting to travel. Alongside that, I worked on the website, helped name the product and its colorways, and created the imagery for the support site.

Later that year, Spectacles introduced two new styles: Nico and Veronica. Where the earlier frames were playful and a little toylike, these were designed to look like everyday sunglasses you'd actually reach for, the unisex Nico and the more feminine Veronica, both polarized and more grown-up. Snap timed the launch to New York Fashion Week, and the fashion press embraced them, comparing Veronica to Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's shades and Nico to classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers. I owned the launch assets for Nico and Veronica, including the product renders and the how-to content that taught people how to use them.
